Our Thoughts About the Light Collection

You can also read customer reviews for Learn Nature Photography here.

Nick Page: I am honored to be a part of this collection of tutorials. The others have done an incredible job outlining their use of the various types of light as well as how they handle that light both in the field and post processing. Josh’s “light at night” tutorial is a fun and inspiring look at creative ways to add your own light in night scenes. I also found the simple tools in the hands of masters like Alex and Michael to be an eye opener—its amazing how awesome simple tools can be when used well! Sarah and Eric do amazing jobs of showing how beautiful the subtle light of twilight and reflected light can be with their beautiful photography, and Sean’s primer on the the quality of light sets a great tone for the entire collection. Again I am just honored to be a part of this collection!

Sean Bagshaw: Light could be the most important—and often most misunderstood—element in landscape photography. With the Light Collection, I think this amazing team has created something unique and special. Seeing how each instructor thinks about, photographs, and develops a specific type of light was mind-expanding. Even this 30-year student of light came away with numerous aha moments.

Joshua Cripps: I am consistently blown away by this team, and the thought and care they put into their tutorials in this collection. I found endless helpful ideas, a-ha moments, and important reminders as I watched the videos. This is a very unique collection, one I am proud to be part of.

Sarah Marino: I learned so much from watching all the Light Collection videos. Each member of the Learn Nature Photography team is an excellent teacher, and I love that we are each able to bring a unique perspective on nature photography while also pulling together a very cohesive course. Sean’s introduction lays the groundwork for seeing light in more nuanced ways and he shows many examples of how better observation skills can help a photographer see more opportunities in the field. While I think I am pretty good at the “in the field” part of seeing light, I made pages of notes about new processing techniques to try as I watched Alex, Michael, Josh, Nick, and Eric process their example photos. My colleagues are each masters at processing challenging files and I now have some new ideas for how I can revisit some of my older files. Each video offers an inspiring mix of creative ideas and practical lessons. I feel lucky to be part of this team!

Alex Noriega: I don’t believe that there is anything else like this collection available for nature photographers. I’m amazed at the amount of knowledge my six colleagues have packed into each of their respective tutorials, giving a comprehensive look at perhaps the most important subject in photography. Along with composition, an understanding of light is one of the keys to mastering this artform, and I’m so proud of what we’ve put together here.

Michael Shainblum: I’m truly honored to be part of this incredible team of photographers—not only as colleagues, but as friends. We’ve poured our hearts and souls into these classes to create a truly unique and inspiring educational experience. We hope you enjoy our new Light Collection as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Eric Bennett: I’ve been making tutorial videos for over 10 years now in hopes to help photographers unlock their full potential and be able to tap into their unbridled creativity. So the chance to work with this like-minded team of talented photographers to create a unique, cohesive collection has been nothing short of remarkable. Just like our previous release, the Light Collection demonstrates a plethora of knowledge, editing techniques, and compositional theory pertaining to natural light that will undoubtedly help you to elevate your photography and most importantly, understand nature on an even deeper level.
